So this is it, I am so bored and tired of being jobless after 3 months that I decided to go back to my blogging days, something I had supposedly quit for good. But I think this situation is worth writing about it. Because it's not about the typical situation of a grad student who gets his or her degree and hits the road looking for a job. We are also facing one of the worst financial crisis in the last 75 years. It's such a historical situation that you are gonna tell your grandchildren about it for sure. Banks going nationalized, massive destruction of labor, the disappearance of investment banking as we knew it, etc. In my personal case, there is a second characteristic of my current state that makes it remarkable. I am 8000 km away from my hometown, across the Atlantic, in a country that has not been particularly kind to immigration, and I am still trying to stay in that country. Anybody in his or her right mind would ask why. Well, to be honest, despite a lot of lovely things I may find in my home country, there are some others which I loathe with all my mind. Lack of security is the main issue. Something that makes me really happy about being here is that I can take a cab in the middle of the night without having the fear of being kidnapped by the driver and his cronies, stripped of every single cent in my bank account and left abandoned in the outskirts of the city (I am not exaggerating). Infrastructure is another thing at stake here. I really enjoy having a very good public transportation system and an adequate network of hospitals, just to give a couple examples. It works so fine that I would be most happy to pay whatever tax they charge, because I see the outcome. Back there, I would fear that the public funds are gonna be plundered by unscrupulous politicians who, in order to perpetuate themselves in their position of power to continue their pillage, have decided to pledge allegiance to the current president and to his reelection pretensions. They don't care about his ideology, they don't care about his performance. They just want to exchange favors with him. Anyway.....
So here I am. Trying to scratch a living in a region of the First World. Is it too stupid?

Definitely not too stupid but you may need a bit more of optimism...
ResponderEliminarMaybe you can tell us what you have tried so far and what results you got... Try to make a comparison between what you've been told in your MBA (you surely had some kind of Carreer Development course or similar) and what is really working (debunking the MBA BS.... ).
And you may want to crack a few jokes in your posts, so the crisis become less tragic....
well, you ca still write code. At least here in germany it's still easy to find jobs in the technology areas, specially as programmers.
ResponderEliminar"stripped of every single cent in my bank account and left abandoned in the outskirts of the city". Wait.... wouldn't the green bear of Caja Madrid do that too?
ResponderEliminarYou can always code or sell your body.
interesting..
ResponderEliminarill keep coming back.
Well, I think the idea of an MBA for us (IT guys) is quitting precisely what we decided not to do anymore: programming. So the idea of finding this kind of job is going back to what you decided not to do anymore.
ResponderEliminarIn my case, I’m a finance specialist with the same problem: can’t find a job in something not related to programming…but you know, time is ticking and you can´t be jobless forever…shite!
I hope that you and I find a good and especially different job.
Yes, Juan Pablo, the green bear wants to strip me of my money but not by kidnapping me in the trunk of a cab...
